Judge Steven D. Narick, 85, of Moundsville, WV, retired Senior Status Judge of the State of West Virginia, died on Wednesday, September 1, 2004, at home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on February 19, 1919 in Wendel, WV, the son of the late Steven and Rose Jurasich Narick, and brother of the late Mary Mikesinovich. Judge Narick was a graduate of Union High School in Benwood, WV, earned an AB degree from West Virginia University, and an LLB degree from the WVU College of Law. He also was a graduate of The National Judicial College, and the American Academy of Judicial Education.
During WWII, he served in the European Theatre of Operations ETO with the Third Army, 35th Infantry Division as an Infantry Platoon Leader, receiving the Bronze Star, and participating in five campaigns. After the war, he served with occupational forces in Germany until released from active duty. He entered the practice of law in 1948 in Moundsville, and was recalled to active duty during the Korean War, after which he returned to his practice in Moundsville.
Judge Narick was elected Prosecuting Attorney of Marshall County in 1952, and thrice elected Judge of the Second Judicial Circuit Court, serving as chief judge of the circuit for twelve years. He was also appointed Judge of Model Circuit Court of West Virginia in 1984. He was a member of the Judicial Delegation to East Asia in 1985, and a former member of the West Virginia Judicial Association, Judicial Council of West Virginia, and American Judicature Society. He was a member of the Board of Governors of the West Virginia State Bar, and also served as its vice-president until his election as judge in 1974.
Judge Narick was past-president of the following organizations: St. Francis Xavier Parish Council, Moundsville Rotary Club, Marshall County Bar Association, Moundsville Chamber of Commerce, Wheeling Deanery Holy Name Society, Wheeling Diocesan Council of Catholic Men, and the Serra Club of Wheeling. He served as District Governor of Rotary International for the Rotary Clubs of northern West Virginia.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, Marshall County Chamber of Commerce, Council of Administration of the Diocese of Wheeling, Knights of Columbus, Moundsville Country Club, West Virginia University
