ANTHONY "TONY" VALACHOVIC, 66, OF HILLVIEW AVENUE, BELLAIRE, OHIO, DIED FRIDAY JUNE 11, 2004 AT THE BELMONT COMMUNITY HOSPITAL, BELLAIRE, OHIO.

HE WAS BORN SEPTEMBER 17, 1937 IN BELLAIRE, A SON OF THE LATE CYPRIAN AND SADIE CHEASAL VALACHOVIC.

TONY WAS CURRENTLY EMPLOYED WITH ARROW CONCRETE OF MC MECHEN, WV AS A TRUCK DRIVER AND WAS FORMERLY EMLOYED WITH THE EAST OHIO REGIONAL TRANSIT AUTHORITY AS A BUS DRIVER. TONY SERVED 12 YEARS IN THE US AIR FORCE THEN SERVED IN THE US ARMY RESERVES AND RETIRED FROM THAT BRANCH OF THE ARMED FORCES. HE CONTINUED TO SERVE OUR COUNTRY BY HIS DEDICATION WITH MEMBERSHIPS IN THE BELLAIRE VFW POST #626, SERVING AS TRUSTEE AND ON THE HONOR GURAD, AND THE SHADYSIDE AMERICAN LEGION POST #521, SERVING AS POST ADJUTANT FOR OVER 20 YEARS. HE WAS PAST COMMANDER OF THE 11TH DISTRICT OF AMERICAN LEGION, SERVING ON ITS EXECUTIVE BOARD AND AS A TRUSTEE AND SERVED AS ADJUTANT FOR THE BELMONT COUNTY COUNCIL OF AMERICAN LEGIONS. HE WAS DISTRICT CHAIRMAN FOR THE GIFTS FOR YANKS AND WAS RECOGNIZED FOR HIS SERVICE BY RECEIVING THE ROBERT T. SECREST AWARD IN 1992.

IN ADDITION TO HIS PARENTS, HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY THREE INFANT CHILDREN AND A BROTHER, CHARLES VANEK.

SURVIVING ARE HIS WIFE, LINDA HAINES VALACHOVIC OF BELLAIRE, THREE DAUGHTERS, LINDA OHLSON AND HER HUSBAND KRIS OF MODESTO, CALIFORNIA; DIANA CORCORAN AND HER HUSBAND DARREN OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA AND CAROLYN VALACHOVIC OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA; TWO SONS, JASON VALACHOVIC AND HIS WIFE TAMMY OF SHADYSIDE, OHIO AND BRAD VALACHOVIC OF BELLAIRE, OHIO; TWO BROTHERS, JOHN VANEK OF CHILLICOTHE, OHIO AND JOE VALACHOVIC AND HIS WIFE BARBARA OF SPRING HILLS, FLORIDA; ONE SISTER, AGNES HOUSTON AND HER HUSBAND NICK OF MT. VERNON, OHIO. THREE GRANDCHILDREN, RYAN VALACHOVIC, KAYLA MONROE, AND COURTNEY VALACHOVIC; MANY NIECES AND NEPHEWS, AND A VERY SPECIAL FRIEND OF THE FAMILY, DONNY CARTER.

FRIENDS WILL BE RECEIVED MONDAY JUNE 14 FROM 12 NOON UNTIL 8 PM AT THE BAUKNECHT-ALTMEYER FUNERAL HOMES AND CREMATORY, 441-37TH STREET BELLAIRE, OHIO, WHERE SERVICES WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY JUNE 15 AT 1 PM WITH LIFE LONG FRIEND AND NEIGHBOR REVEREND RAY A. BENESH OFFICIATING. BURIAL FOLLOWS IN MT. CALVARY CEMETERY, BELLAIRE, OHIO. FULL MILITARY GRAVESIDE SERVICES WILL BE CONDUCTED BY THE BELMONT COUNTY COUNCIL OF THE AMERICAN LEGIONS.

MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS MAY BE MADE TO AMERICAN LEGION, DEPARTMENT OF OHIO GIFTS FOR THE YANKS, OR BELMONT COUNTY CHAPTER OF SPECIAL OLYMPICS.
