Benjamin Shaver

February 28, 1921 - February 21, 2005

Benjamin O. Shaver, 83 of Shadyside, Ohio died Monday February 21, 2005 at the Crestview Health Care Center in St. Clairsville, Ohio.

He was born February 28, 1921 in Shadyside, Ohio, a son of the late Raymond N. and Alice Boyd Shaver.

Ben was a retired pipefitter and plumber with the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 83 in Wheeling, West Virginia, a member of the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church in Shadyside, Ohio. He was a member of Shadyside Lodge 724 F & AM, serving twice as Master, Past District Deputy, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 581, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and the York Rite, Knight of the York Cross. Ben was a US Army veteran serving with the Eighth Army Air Corp in the European Theater.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Elizabeth Helms, Lourie Looker, Minerva Shaver, Hilda Wright, and an infant sister, Clara Shaver and three brothers, George, Ray and John Shaver.

Surviving are his wife, Ilene Rider Shaver, four children Stuart Shaver and his wife Ramona of Bailey, Colorado, John Shaver and his wife Linda of Shadyside, Ohio, Doris Thomas and her husband Doug of Bridgeport, Ohio, Elizabeth McCready and her husband Scott of Wooster, Ohio.
Also fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory 3900 Central Avenue, Shadyside, Ohio on Thursday from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM and on Friday from 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM at the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church, 3838 Lincoln Avenue Shadyside, Ohio, with the Reverend Donald Perks officiating.

Interment in the Lower Wegee Cemetery at Shadyside, Ohio.

Shadyside Lodge 724 F & AM will conduct services on Thursday at 7 PM at the funeral Home. Shadyside Fire Department services will follow at 7:30 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church, 3838 Lincoln Avenue, Shadyside, Ohio 43947 or Shadyside Fire Department and Emergency Squad Association, 4210 Central Avenue, Shadyside, Ohio 43947.
