Clarence ”Reid” Matthews, 77, entered into rest on Thursday March 8, 2001. He was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, as one of ten children, to the late Mildred and Paul Matthews. He was the widower of Eileene Matthews,

Mr. Matthews served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He will be remembered for his his many years as a successful salesman.

He is survived by four children and their spouses, Dennis and Joanne Matthews, Terry and Terry Matthews, Cindy and Bill Davis, all of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Robin and David Coyle of Fairfax, Virginia; four sisters, Nancy, Florence, Ruth, and Mary; a brother Harold; two grandchildren, Michelle and Christopher, a great-granddaughter, Eileene Elizabeth; as well as numerous nieces,and nephews, and a host of friends.

A funeral service will be conducted in Altmeyer Funeral Home Chapel in Virginia Beach on Saturday March 10, 2001 at 11:00am, with burial following at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Norfolk, Virginia.

The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Friday March 9, 2001 from 7:00 to 9:00pm.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, or to the American Heart Association.
