VIRGINIA BEACH — Earl Cain Gibson, 79, of VAMC, Hampton, died March 7, 2001.

Born in Pulaski County, Ky., he was the son of the late Charles Valentine Gibson, M.D., and Mary Elizabeth Gibson. He was a retired Air Force MSGT and served with distinction in World War II, the Korean conflict and Vietnam. He was also a member of the 401st Bombardment Group Association.

He is survived by his wife, Lee Thompson Gibson; two daughters, Sherrill Gibson Marshall of Virginia Beach and Melissa Gibson Proffitt and her husband, Lt. Col. Paul C. of Columbia, S.C.; one son, Eric C. Gibson of San Antonio, Texas; daughter-in-law, Camille; one brother, Edwin G. Gibson of Science Hill, Ky.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Altmeyer Funeral Home, Virginia Beach Chapel. Burial will take place in Arlington National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
