Fernande Bryant

January 16, 1926 - November 7, 2004

In loving memory of

FERNANDE BODSON BRYANT

HAMPTON – Our mother, Fernande Bodson Bryant, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, Nov 7, 2004, after fighting a strong battle with chronic illness.

Fernande, our mom, was born Jan 17, 1926, in Baudour, Belgium. Her father, Armand Bodson, her mother, Maria Mievis; brothers Marcel, Armand, Jean-Marie Bodson, and sister Marie Louise Bodson preceded Fernande in death.

Fernande at the age of 17 survived the World War II Allied bombing of Dresden, Germany. She became a prisoner of war and was forced to work in an airplane factory. Fernande was a leader amongst her female cohorts. When the Allied attack began, some of the women prisoners wanted to run toward the train station to escape the firestorm. Fernande pleaded with the women to run away to the city outskirts. Some of them chose the train station, and others followed Fernande. Those who followed our mother survived, but the others perished. Our mother, a hero then, remains one now in our hearts.

At age 21, Fernande
