WEHRHEIM, George M., 90, of Haddale Avenue, Wheeling, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, died Monday, February 9, 2004 in Wheeling Hospital.
George was born February 26, 1913 in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late George A. and Elizabeth Endress Wehrheim.
He was a retired saleman for Mellott’s Auto Parts and Levin’s Auto Parts, Wheeling; was a former employee of Gil-mar’s Drive-Thru on Edgington Lane, Wheeling and was a former bartender at Mace’s Club, Fulton. He was also a Army Veteran of WWII, having served in North Africa, Italy and Sicily; was a life member of the V.F.W. Post #278, Pittsburgh, the Military Order of Cooties, Pup Tent #99, Pittsburgh, Knights of Columbus, Carroll Council #504, Wheeling, W.V. Snakes Club, Italian American Club and the Bloomfield Leidertafal Singing Society, Pittsburgh. He was past president of the Wheeling Central Catholic High School Boosters; a member of the Sons of Italy, Lodge #754, Bellaire, F.O.P.A. #38, Wheeling Elks Lodge #28, Sisters of Saint Jospeh Auxiliary, A.A.R.P. and was a dedicated volunteer for the Upper Ohio Valley Italian Festival and Wheeling Hospital.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie G. Messino Wehrheim in 1998; a sister, Betty Wehrheim and a brother, Joseph Wehrheim.
Surviving are his three children, G. James Wehrheim of Warrendale, PA, M. Paul Wehrheim and his wife Jayette of Milford, Kansas and Marilyn Wehrheim of Wheeling; a sister, Reda Scully of Pittsburgh and two grandchildren, Stephanie and J.J., Wehrheim of Wexford, PA.
Friends will be received from 7-9 pm Wednesday and 2-4 and 7-9 pm Thursday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger Street, Elm Grove, Wheeling, where a vigil service will be held at 3:30 pm and a rosary service at 3:45 pm Thursday.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 9 am Friday, February 13, 2004 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling, with the Rev. James Sobus as celebrant. Interment in Braddock Catholic Cemetery, Pittsburgh, PA.
Freinds are invited to join the family at a gathering at 4:30 pm Thursday at Tony & Cleos Restaurant, Wheeling.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Marie Wehrheim Scholarship Fund and checks may be payable to the John Marshall Scholarship/ Wehrheim Fund, PO Box 3048, Wheeling, WV.
