Age 82

James Robert McDevitt, 82, of Juanita Drive, East Liverpool, Ohio, died at East Liverpool City Hospital on Thursday, January 29, 2004, following a lengthy illness.

He was born in East Liverpool, Ohio on September 2, 1921, a son of the late Elvie Lindsay McDevitt and Gladys Elizabeth Weekly McDevitt.

Mr. McDevitt last worked as a custodian at East Liverpool High School and Riverside Presbyterian Church. Before that, he worked at the former Conrail Railroad, where he worked as a Tower Operator. He graduated from Wellsville High School in 1939, was a member of Riverside Presbyterian Church in Wellsville and a 60 year member of the American Legion Post 70.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Allabaugh McDevitt, whom he married on February 23, 1957; three sons, James B. McDevitt of Rochester, New Hampshire, Michael S. McDevitt of Racine, Wisconsin and Scott L. McDevitt of East Liverpool, Ohio; a daughter, Susan Williams of New Waterford, Ohio; two step-daughters, Shirley Liber of Lisbon, OH and Orpha Campbell of East Liverpool, OH; a brother, Joseph E. McDevitt of Lakeland, Florida; one sister, Shirley R. Perorazio of Hilliard, Ohio; 15 grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren.

Services will be held at the Rivserside Presbyterian Church in Wellsville on Monday, February 2, 2004 at 1:30 PM with Rev. William Betteridge of the church officiating.

Friends may call at the Wellsville Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Monday, February 2, 2004 from 11:00AM to 1:00 PM.

The Tri State Burial Group will accord military honors at the church immediately following the service.
