Lawrence L. Lucas, 96, of Roosevelt Ave., Benwood, died Monday, March 12, 2001 at Moundview Health Care.

He was born May 7, 1904 in Benwood, son of the late Mary Opich.

He was formerly employed at Stifles Calico and Wheeling Tile Company, and was a member of St John Catholic Church in Benwood.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Wagenhoffer Lucas; a brother, George Lucas; three stepbrothers, George Jr., Michael and Tom Opich.

Surviving are a son, Lawrence G. Lucas and his wife, Ellen of Glen Dale; two daughters, Shirley M. Lucas of Benwood and Linda L. McPeek and her husband, Richard of Glen Dale; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received Tuesday, March 13, 2001 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 214 Marshall St., McMechen, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2001, with the Rev. Gervase Cain T.O.R. as celebrant. Entombment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Wheeling.

Vigil services at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
