Leo Schein was born in Taunton, MA. on August 27, 1928 and the son of the late Joseph and Mary Schein. He retired after 28 years of service in the United States Navy as a Chief Yeoman. His duty stations included; USS Notable, USS Macon, USS Blandy, Naval War College and the Armed Forces Staff College. Mr. Schein also retired from M.A.C. Air Terminal in Norfolk, VA.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Catherine Elizabeth Bradley Schein, of Norfolk, VA; and his seven children, David Donald Schein of Alexandria, VA and Houston, TX; Catherine H. Schein-Braun and her husband Werner of Friendswood, TX; Linda Ann Wildermuth and her husband John L. of Virginia Beach, VA; Cecilia Marie Schein of Rahway, NJ and Virginia Beach, VA; Joseph Morris Schein of Chesapeake, VA; Daniel Bradley Schein and his wife Rose of San Jose, CA; and Donna Grace Davis and her husband Michael of Herndon, VA.
Mr. Schein was one of nine children. His brothers and sisters include; Ruth Maniloff of Winterpark, FL; the late Henry Schein of Taunton, MA; Irving S. Schein of Waltham, MA; the late Ethel Buscemi of Taunton, MA; Edward Schein of North Haledon, NJ; Harold I Schein of Pawtucket, RI and West Palm Beach, FL; Lillian Bayer of Taunton, MA; and Arnold Schein of Brockton, MA.
He was also proud of his sixteen grandchildren; Elizabeth Marie Schein, Anna Catherine Schein, Sarah Ann Wildermuth, Heidi Beth Wildermuth, David Donald Schein, II, Michael Thomas Davis, Jr., Sandra Rose Wildermuth, Rebeckah Kelly Davis, Heather Lee Davis, Bradley James Schein, Laura Christine Schein, Alanna Leigh Wildermuth, Beth Joanna Wildermuth, Benjamin Adam Braun, Sophia Mary Schein, and Fabian Braun.
Mr. Schein passed away after a courageous 22 year battle with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. Our heart felt thanks to all the wonderful people at Portsmouth Naval Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, National Psoriasis Foundation, and the American Leukemia Foundation.
A graveside service will be conducted Sunday, July 8, 2001 at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, VA.
Altmeyer Funeral Home, Virginia Beach, is handling arrangements.
