McGannon, Mary Agnes, 93, of Wheeling, W.Va., formerly of Washington, DC., died Tuesday June 1, 2004 in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling.
Miss McGannon was born in Wheeling, on April 11, 1911, the daughter of the late William T. and Mary Ann Dougher McGannon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by nine brothers and her niece, Mary Dailer.
Miss McGannon was a member of St. Thomas Apostle Church. Mary came to Washington in 1951 to accept a position with the Veterans Administration. She was very active in various organizations including the Sodality and Leisure Club. She was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, served as a volunteer and a member of the Board of Directors for the American Lung Association of the District of Columbia. She was also a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and belonged to the Heritage Club. After living and working in Washington D.C. for 51 years, and retiring on December 31, 1976 as the Chief Accountant for the Superior Court, Miss McGannon returned to Wheeling area in February of 2001 and resided at the Welty Home where she had many friends.
Miss McGannon is survived by nieces and nephews: Mrs. Patricia Dean of Chesterfield, MI., Edward McGannon of Warwood, Billy McGannon of Lorain, Ohio, Tom Carol McGannon of Warwood, Marie McGannon of Weston, W.Va., John Mary Ellen McGannon of Bremerton, Washington, nephew by marriage, Jim Dailer of Triadelphia; numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling, W.Va.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Saturday June 5, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral, Wheeling, with the Rev. Larry Dorsch as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
Memorial contributions may be made to: Sisters of Mt. Saint Joseph, Pogue Run Road, Wheeling, WV 26003.
