Nelson Burch

Nelson W. Burch, 83, of Benwood, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, in Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling. He was born August 19, 1917, in McMechen, WV, a son of the late Walter and Geneva Rose Burch.

He was currently employed as the Deputy Assessor for the Marshall County Assessors Office. He was a member of the First Christian Church, McMechen; a World War II Coast Guard veteran and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 46, Blake Brothers, Benwood.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Geneva Burch.

Surviving are his wife, Stella R. Sparachane Burch; a son, Louis James DeLoretta and his fiancee, Nancy Gravis; two daughters, Cheryl Dean and her husband, David and Sarah Delbert, all of McMechen; three brothers, Layman Burch and his wife, Shirley of Wheeling, Lester Burch and his wife, Allegra of Glen Dale and Walter ”Buddy” Burch of New Martinsville; a sister, Norma Fetty of Benwood; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation. Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 214 Marshall St., McMechen, with Pastor Brad Johnston officiating. Internment in Greenlawn Memorial Park, New Martinsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, 32 Fourth St., McMechen, WV 26040.
